Funeral Arranger Brigid-Mary Oates was invited to Bretton Court in Buttershaw for a memorial to celebrate the life of one of the residents.
Whilst there, Brigid spoke with a manager and offered to visit and present a session on the role of funeral directors, thoughts around a person’s wishes when they are at end of life, how they would like to be looked after, their hopes for their funerals, and to do some therapeutic creative activity around loss and memories.
The activity Brigid chose was very sensory and involved salt, chalk, and glass bottles, asking those taking part to think about the colours they would use when thinking about a lost loved one and to create a rainbow of colour in the glass bottles to keep close by them.
Brigid said:” I have used this activity many times in my previous therapeutic role, it is soothing and creates moments for reflection of a loved one but also creates and opportunity to speak of a loved one.
The session went amazingly well, some funny moments and of course, sad ones too.”
